HAIR TRANSPLANTATION TECHNIQUE: FUE
The most commonly used technique for hair transplantation is a method known as the FUE technique, which is performed under local anesthesia. In the FUE hair transplant method, hair follicles are collected with the help of a micromotor.
Thanks to the FUE technique, it is possible to achieve natural-looking results. With our expert team and advanced technological equipment, we perform your hair transplant operation safely and effectively. We aim to provide the best service to offer you natural and permanent results.
ADVANTAGES OF FUE HAIR TRANSPLANTATION
- No stitches and scars
- Short duration of treatment
- After the operation, the person can quickly return to his/her daily life
- No pain during and after the operation
- It allows the channels to be opened frequently in the transplantation area and as a result, maximum hair density is achieved.
With the FUE technique, the holes in the area where the follicles are taken are closed without leaving scars, and 1500-5500 hair follicles can be removed in each session. The healing process is faster since the scalp strip is not removed from the nape area as in the old FUT technique.
In cases where there are not enough follicles in the most fertile area (nape), follicular units can be taken from other parts of the body and transferred. It is known that expert teams achieve the best results in hair restoration surgery. In addition, it is stated that by using micromotors and sapphire tips in the FUE technique, smaller microchannels can be opened and the healing process is speeded up.
HOW IS FUE HAIR TRANSPLANTATION PERFORMED?
1-OPERATION PLANNING
In our KolanHair Hair Transplantation Center, the area to be transplanted is first evaluated by experts. Considering the client’s wishes, the hair transplant operation is planned and the degree of hair loss, the areas to be transplanted and the number of grafts are determined.
2-COLLECTION OF HAIR FOLLICLES
The second step of the operation is to collect the required number of hair follicles from the donor area under local anesthesia. One of the important steps that distinguishes the FUE method from the old techniques is the “collection” phase. In the FUE method, hair follicles are taken one by one, linear incisions are not made as in the old methods.
Root collection is not done randomly, the hair follicles in the donor area should be collected at equal intervals. In this way, if the new hair grows, the clients do not encounter any asymmetrical situation.
The donor area represents the area where healthy hair follicles will be collected for transplantation. The area between the two ears is selected as the donor area. According to genetic predisposition, the hair in this area is coded not to fall out.
3-PREPARATION OF THE AREA TO BE PLANTED
In hair transplantation, every stage is of great importance to achieve an intense and natural appearance. Opening a channel to the areas to be treated is one of them. It is also very important that the tissue is not damaged and the blood circulation is not disturbed during the channel opening.
It is very important that the canal stage is performed by expert and experienced hands. According to the individual’s preference and the agreed technique, the most suitable hair transplantation technique is applied in our center. In the FUE hair transplantation technique, faster healing is seen thanks to the “sapphire-tipped blades” offered as an option.
4-PLACEMENT OF GRAFTS
In the pre-prepared hair transplantation area, the grafts are placed one by one in the areas. Determining the channel directions of the areas where the grafts taken from the donor area will be placed is a very important step. These two strategic placements are directly related to the natural appearance of the hair transplant results.
SAPPHIRE FUE METHOD
Sapphire FUE hair transplant is an up-to-date and effective method using sapphire-tipped blades. In this technique, hair follicles are removed from the donor area and placed in balding areas.
The name of sapphire FUE hair transplantation comes from the sapphire-tipped micro-motors used during the procedure. The sapphire tip’s feature is that it creates less damage during the channeling phase, accelerating the healing process and making the transplanted hair look more natural.
What is a Sapphire FUE Knife?
Sapphire, a very hard crystal, is characterized by its ability to make sharper, more durable, and thinner cuts. Sapphire-tipped blades can cause less damage when removing hair follicles, causing less bleeding and promoting faster healing.
In this method, hair follicles are collected with the FUE technique, and the canal is opened using a micromotor. Special sapphire tips are preferred instead of metal slits.
Steps Realized in Sapphire Fue
- Planning the hair transplant operation
- Determination of new hair transplantation areas
- Local anesthesia and collection of grafts
- Preparation of the area to be transplanted and opening the channels
- Placement of grafts
Healthy grafts from the donor site are carefully placed one by one into the grooves opened with sapphire-tipped blades.
1- Planning the Operation:
In our KolanHair Hair Transplant Center, the area to be transplanted is first evaluated by the doctor. Considering the client’s wishes, the hair transplant operation is planned and the degree of hair loss, the areas to be transplanted, and the number of grafts are determined.
2- Collection of Healthy Hair Roots:
- The second step of the operation is to collect the required number of hair follicles from the donor area under local anesthesia. One of the important steps that distinguishes the FUE method from the old techniques is the “collection” phase. In the Sapphire FUE hair transplant, hair follicles are taken one by one, linear incisions are not made as in the old methods.
- Root collection is not done randomly, hair follicles in the donor area should be collected at equal intervals. In this way, if the new hair grows, the clients do not encounter any asymmetrical situations.
- The donor area represents the area where healthy hair follicles will be collected for transplantation. The area between the two ears is selected as the donor area. According to genetic predisposition, the hair in this area is coded not to fall out.
3- Preparation of the New Hair Transplantation Area:
In hair transplantation, every stage is of great importance to achieve an intense and natural appearance. Opening a channel in the areas to be transplanted is one of them. It is also very important that the tissue is not damaged and the blood circulation is not disturbed during channel opening. For this, “sapphire-tipped” blades are used in our center.
Sapphire-tipped blades have different advantages compared to metal silt:
- Sapphire, which is a very hard crystal, does not lose its sharpness; therefore, there is no tissue loss during canal opening.
- Blood circulation is not impaired.
- It is anti-microbial.
4- Placement of the grafts:
Grafts are placed one by one in the pre-prepared hair transplantation area. Determining the channel directions of the areas where the grafts taken from the donor area will be placed is a very important step. This strategic placement is directly related to the natural appearance of the hair transplant results.
WHAT IS DHI HAIR TRANSPLANT?
DHI hair transplant method is the most modern method developed and named after direct transplantation without opening a channel to the transplantation area, the hair to be transplanted is placed under the skin with the help of a pen called Choi Pen.
DHI stands for “Direct Hair Implant” / Direct Hair Implantation. The DHI transplantation is performed with a pen-like medical device (CHOI Implanter Pen), so this method is also called pen technique/hair transplantation with the pen.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DHI AND FUE HAIR TRANSPLANTATION
The main differences between the follicular unit transplantation (FUE) method and the direct hair transplantation (DHI) method are quite important. In the FUE hair transplantation method, channels are opened in the area to be transplanted and then hair follicles or grafts taken from the donor area are placed in these channels.
In the DHI hair transplantation method, hair follicles or grafts taken from the donor area are placed directly into the area to be transplanted using a special pen. Therefore, in the DHI method, no canal is opened in the area to be transplanted.
Thanks to DHI hair transplantation, the grafts taken from the donor area do not have to wait outside for a long time. This makes the grafts healthier and more durable. Therefore, it is possible to achieve a more natural look in hair transplantation with the DHI method.
How is DHI hair transplant performed?
Hair transplantation with the FUE method basically takes place in 3 steps: The first step is to collect the grafts, the second step is to open the channels in the area to be transplanted and the last step is to transplant the collected grafts/hair follicles into the opened channels.
The first step in transplantation with the DHI method is the collection of grafts. For this, as in FUE, hair follicles/grafts are collected from the donor area. In the second stage, thanks to the special medical device used, the collected grafts are transferred directly to the area to be transplanted without the need to open a channel beforehand. The canal is opened in a few seconds with the DHI pen and the graft is placed into the canal. Differently from the FUE method, canal opening, and root placement are performed in one step.
PAINLESS ANESTHESIA (SEDATION) METHOD
Information is provided about the DHI method used in hair transplantation. The main points are as follows:
- Local anesthesia is applied at the beginning of the operation. Optionally, it can be started with air pressure anesthesia (dermojet) or sedated anesthesia.
- In the DHI method, prior canalization is not necessary in the area to be transplanted. The grafts taken from the donor area are placed in a pen-like medical device and the tip of this device is inserted into the transplantation area and a channel is opened. Then the grafts are placed into the opened channel by pressing the mechanism.
- In the DHI method, crusting in the transplanted area is reduced and the healing time is accelerated.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF DHI HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?
- With the DHI method, transplantation can be performed without the client having to shave completely. This is an important advantage, especially for female clients.
- It is very easy to direct the hair follicles during transplantation with the DHI method.
- In the DHI method, the damage caused while placing hair follicles in the area to be transplanted is minimal. Therefore, crusting is observed less in the treated area after transplantation.
DHI is preferred if the transplantation area is hairy or sparse. The reason for this is that the hair spaces can be tightened without damaging the roots in DHI. Since the channels are opened in the FUE and Sapphire FUE methods, the possibility of damaging the hair follicles in the hairy transplantation area is high and shaving is mandatory when applying FUE and Sapphire FUE techniques. Whereas in DHI, trimming the transplantation area is optional.

Sedated Hair Transplant
In sedated hair transplant, it ensures that the operation is comfortable. Thanks to this anesthesia method, it is possible to have painless and painless operations.
Hair transplants usually start with local anesthesia and may give a slight burning sensation in the nape area lasting between 3 and 5 minutes, but this is very short and temporary. However, sedation is preferred instead of local anesthesia upon request from clients due to fear of needles.
Who Can Receive Sedated Hair Transplantation?
Sedation hair transplantation can be performed on anyone who is considering the operation but has fears or concerns and does not pose any obstacles. The sedation provides comfort to the client during the procedure.
Stages of Sedation
Stage 1
Necessary interviews are conducted for hair transplantation, the area or areas to be transplanted are determined and a hair transplant appointment is created,
Stage 2
On the day of the hair transplantation, the client must come 8 hours before the operation without eating or drinking anything including water. Afterwards, blood tests are performed and the procedure is started by shaving the hair according to the technique.
Stage 3
Sedation is performed during drowsiness and the operation is performed without the client feeling pain and suffering.short-lasting sleepy state is induced.
Stage 4
Sedation is performed during drowsiness and the operation is performed without the client feeling pain and suffering.
Eyebrow Transplant
Eyebrow transplant, which is a highly preferred method by women; accidents, trauma, burns, etc. It is applied to eliminate situations. As in hair and beard transplantation procedures, it is the process of taking fine hair follicles that can adapt to the face from the donor area using the DHI method and transplanting them to the eyebrow area at appropriate angles to provide a natural appearance.
Eyebrow structure is one of the main determinants of a person’s characteristic appearance and facial expressions. For this reason, one of the important points in eyebrow transplantation is to decide on the shape of the new eyebrow to be transplanted. Before the operation, an eyebrow shape suitable for the facial line is determined together with the client, taking into account the client’s wishes.
As with eyebrow transplantation, eyebrow transplantation is technically the process of taking micro grafts (single hair strands) from the area of the person with fine hair structure and placing them in the area where the person has an eyebrow opening.
Is eyebrow transplantation performed on men?
Eyebrow transplant treatment is also applied to men. This procedure involves taking hair follicles one by one and placing them in the eyebrow area. It is quite common for men to want to shape their eyebrows or achieve a fuller appearance. However, as the needs of each individual are different, it is important to make personalized planning by consulting a specialist before eyebrow transplantation.
Is there any pain during eyebrow transplantation?
Since local anesthesia is applied before the procedure, there is no pain or soreness.
Can a natural look be achieved in eyebrow transplantation?
It is very important what kind of eyebrow the person wants, just as everyone’s hair structure is different, eyebrows are different from each other. Accordingly, the thickness or thinness of the eyebrow to be transplanted should be suitable for the person’s previous eyebrow.
A sparse or very thin eyebrow model will not be suitable for a person with very dense and lush hair, and a dense and thick eyebrow will not be suitable for someone with sparse hair.
What should be considered when deciding on the eyebrow shape?
The eyebrow shape desired by the person is important, so together with our doctors, the eyebrow line, density, and thickness should be decided in advance.
You can shape a thick eyebrow as you wish, but you cannot give an intense look to a thin eyebrow structure.
Will there be any problems after eyebrow transplantation?
As expected, edema formation and redness in the area can be observed. The client can contact your specialist in case of any problems.
Beard and Mustache Transplant
Beard and mustache transplant is performed under local anesthesia. Hair follicles with a fine structure are transplanted to the area in need. It can take approximately 6 to 8 hours.
After the beard transplantation, after the shedding period that will last from the 15th day until the 2nd month, all beards and mustaches will grow in the 9th and 12th months. The results are completely natural.
For beard and mustache transplantation, it is recommended to wait until individuals turn 18 years old to get permanent and natural results.
When to Shave After Beard and Moustache Transplant?
During the first few days after a beard transplant, the skin may become sensitive as it tries to heal. Shaving during this period can lead to wound opening and risk of infection. Generally, you can shave 10-14 days after the procedure under expert control.
How Many Days Does Mustache Transplantation Heal?
The healing process after mustache transplantation may vary from person to person. In general, the full recovery process after mustache transplantation takes about 2-3 weeks. During this time, the roots of the newly transplanted mustache will strengthen and gain a natural appearance.
Are There Any Scars After Beard Transplantation?
There is no scar after beard transplantation. In this procedure, which is performed with modern technology and expertise, a natural appearance is achieved thanks to the placement of micro grafts one by one, and scars are minimized. Therefore, you do not need to worry about scarring after transplantation.
How Long Does Beard Transplantation Take?
Beard transplantation takes approximately 4 to 8 hours. However, this time may vary depending on factors such as the width of the beard area, the number of beards to be transplanted, and the method of transplantation.
When Do Transplanted Mustaches Grow?
After the mustache transplantation process, there may be a shock-shedding process between 2 and 4 weeks. However, it takes 6 months after the procedure for the roots to be fully in place. It should be noted that while this period may be shorter in some people, it may take longer in others. The reason for that is the different hair and follicle growth rate of each individual.
