Dermoscopy

Dermoscopy is the examination of lesions on the skin through epiluminescence microscopy. It helps us to differentiate between benign and malignant lesions. If a dermascopy procedure is performed before the excision of nevus or tumors by the plastic surgeon and a suspicion of malignancy arises as a result of such procedure, the plastic surgeon removes the tumor with a wide margin. The determination of characteristics of lesions prior to an excision operation is very important for operations on the certain sites, as well as for avoiding or minimizing the risk of surgical scars. Of course, the person who will take the final decision on the characteristics of the lesion is the pathologist, but he does not have the chance to guide the surgeon since he can perform his work only after the excision of tumor.
